Log Cabin Republicans – December 1, 2009 Meeting
13th November 2009
The Log Cabin Republicans regular monthly meeting is scheduled for:
Date: Tuesday, December 8, 2009
Time: 7:00PM
Where: Salt Lake City Public Library on Library Square (400 South & 200 East)
Room: Conference Room D Lower Level
The main activity for this meeting is to review how the reception went, and to plan for a Christmas party/social. We will also be discussing how things are progressing on the two bills we will be pushing, as well as how best to work with the legislature during the session in January. We also need to coordinate our delegate program so it is successful. Lots to discuss.
We’ll see you all there!
New Hampshire 6th state to ratify “same sex marriage”
04th June 2009
New Hampshire this week became the 6th state in the country to allow same sex couple to marry. Like Maine, New Hampshire voted through the legislature to allow same sex marriage and the govenor, who is personally opposed to same sex marriage, signed it within hours of passage. No court order needed!
This is exciting. This leaves only Rhode Island in New England without approval of same sex marriage. There is a bill to allow this in the state but it is expected to fail this year.
New York is currently debating the subject and Log cabin is in the middle of this debate encouraging Republicans to provide the final crucial votes for equal marriage rights.
Maine will allow a citizen referendum on the new law for same sex marriage. We must work to ensure this fundamental right is not taken away from our friends and “family” in Maine.
Log Cabin National to Recognize Vermont Republicans
17th April 2009
On Sat. Night, at the national convention, the Log Cabin Republicans will honor the 6 Republicans legislators in Vermont who voted to approve the new marriage rights for same sex couples. They all voted for passage in the regular debate and in the override session to override the veto the Republican governor had issued. Like our national friends we applaud those individuals who resisted the pressure from all sides and voted with their hearts to provide equal rights to more people in Vermont.
Strategy to Pass Common Ground Initiative Legislation
07th April 2009
We at Log Cabin Rebuplicans believe we have come up with a strategy that will help to pass much of the “common ground initiative” legislation . This will include changes to the legislation and changes in sponsorship. Additionally we believe that we need an educational campaign to help the public to understand what each bill does and to help insulate the republican legislatures that sign on to sponsor or choose to vote in support of these ammended bills.
